AFGA to Release 4k Restoration of 'Effects'

Seminal genre film, Effects, has been lovingly restored by the great folks at the non-profit American Film Genre Archive (AFGA). The film will hit Blu Ray on August the 22nd. You can pre-order Effects from Amazon HERE. Produced by the late, great, George Romero's friends, Effects is an odd little do it yourself film the stars Tom Savini (Dawn of the Dead), Joe Polito (Day of the Dead) and John Harrison (Tales From The Darkside: The Movie). Check out more info on the release below. The check out a link containing some information about a special screening of Effects at the Alamo Drafthouse as part of their Terror Tuesday series in Austin.

"A group of coked-up filmmakers -- including Savini and Pilato -- gather in Pittsburgh to make a slasher called DUPED: THE SNUFF MOVIE. As filming begins and "accidents" happen, it's clear that something isn't right. And no one can be trusted. Landing somewhere between Michael and Roberta Findlay's SNUFF and a student film by John Carpenter, EFFECTS is a meta-enhanced takedown on the philosophy of horror that doubles as a sleazy and terrifying movie on its own."

Special features include:

  • AFTER EFFECTS documentary with optional commentary track
  • UBU short film
  • BEASTIE short film
  • Archival commentary track with John Harrison, Dusty Nelson, and Pasquale Buba
  • Liner notes by Joseph A. Ziemba of AGFA and Bleeding Skull!
  • New 4K scan from the only 35mm theatrical print in existence
