The first full length Filipino film to be shot using green screen, with stylized sets and a comic book look, The Monster Chronicles: Tik Tik, is set to hit DVD in the UK on March the 28th. Directed by Eric Matti (The ABC's of Death 2) and starring Dingdong DANTES the vampire folklore film has a macabre sense of humor and plenty of "blood, guts, and and garlic." Check out the poster, synopsis, some images, for the UK release of the film below.
"Cocky layabout Makoy (Dantes) travels to a remote village to reconcile with his pregnant girlfriend. When he's angrily turned away, he tries to win favor by purchasing a suckling pig for her birthday feast. Although a bargain price, the pig isn't quite what it seems, and soon the family are fighting for their lives from a hoard of viscous, man eating creatures: The Tiktiks."
Here's a weak cut and past job regarding the mythology behind The Tiktik Aswags. "An Aswang is a vampire-like witch ghoul in Filipino folklore and is the subject of a wide variety of myths and stories. Spanish colonists noted that the Aswang was the most feared among the mythical creatures of the Philippines, even in the 16th century.
Aswangs are shape-shifters, living as regular townspeople and transform into creatures at night (such as a cat, bat, bird, boar or most often, a dog). They enjoy eating unborn fetuses and small children, favoring livers and hearts. Some have long proboscises, which they use to suck the children out of their mothers' wombs when they are sleeping in their homes. Some make noises, like the Tiktik, (the name was derived from the sound it produces) which are louder the farther away the aswang is, to confuse its potential victim; An aswang will also have bloodshot eyes, the result of staying up all night searching for houses where wakes are held to steal the bodies."
