New Friday The 13th Television Series Moves Forward

This morning, Deadline had an exclusive (that everyone else, yours truly included, then ripped off) regarding the future of the much rumored Friday the 13th television series. Rumors that until today, were just that - rumors.

Todays report not only confirmed that Friday creator Sean Cunningham was not only developing the series but was working with a whole slew of other producers to bring the series to life as they say. Bill Blaso and Jordu Schell have been hired to develop the basic episodic story lines and Roy Knyrum of SOTA F/X will be the man behind the special F/X (obviously). From Cunninghams comments, it seems as though this series will actually have something to do with Jason Voorhees and Camp Crystal Lake (or Forest Green if you prefer), so that seems like a step in the right direction.

“Jason Voorhees is synonymous with the genre and we plan to build on this legacy with a provocative and compelling take that expands upon the storylines that have already thrilled millions worldwide,” explained Cunningham. Said producer Robert Barsamian (of Horror Inc.): “Expect the show to take viewers in some exciting new directions that we’re confident will not only excite existing fans of Friday The 13th but also attract new audiences to the situations and characters that inhabit the small town of Crystal Lake.”

There is no network yet for the proposed project, and you may remember that Cunningham has gone down this "hour long Friday branded" route before. Friday The 13: The Series, was famous for two things: not having Jason Voorhees and being pretty fucking terrible. As usual we will keep you abreast of any news, but until this thing actually finds a legitimate network, consider our hopes slim.
