Morning (News) Dump 4/8: Fucking With My Childhood

Good morning...and salutations Dreadites. It's been a while since I took a full on morning (news) dump. But the recent rash for folks trying to take a shit on everything myself and those of my generation grew up on. Let's start with the best news first:

Directors Walk Away From Ghostbusters III:

News broke yesterday that the chosen ones Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the creative team behind 21 Jump Street and the LEGO Movie, have walked away from Columbia Pictures' third installment of the Ghostbusters franchise. I would have thought that the death of Egon himself, Harold Ramis, would have knocked this back in the dirt. Unfortunately, it seems to have re-ignited the fires. Maybe this latest setback will finally kill this project. One can only hope. So there is some good news there...now on to some shitty news:

Gremlins Reboot Picks up Steam:

Ugh. One would have hoped that this would have died in developmental hell. One would be very disappointed. Again, I am not necessarily anti-remake. But the remake needs to make sense and not be a strict cash grab - which this project has written all over it. Gremlins 3...makes sense. Gremlins remake/reboot? Strict cash grab....and some middling news to finish the day:

Goonies Sequel "is happening":

Richard Donner, great director that he is, has started running his mouth again regarding further Goonies projects. This time he promises that a Goonies sequel "is happening." Which in itself is not bad news. Again - remake would be bad...sequel = good. But don't get to excited yet. We've been down this road before. Remember Goonies - The Musical? Yeah that was "happening" too. Until we hear something more concrete, we will just have to be content with playing Goonies 2 on the NES. Andi as a mermaid? Yes please.

That's it for this Morning (News) Dump. As always, thanks for reading and enjoy every sandwich!
