Odds & Ends : Madison County Redux, Chilling Visions, Roadside Trailer

All right, been a while since we hit on a few of the goings on the horror world. Hey, sometimes real life intercedes, so the day job gets busy, the script writing hits some deadlines and next thing you know it's March.

Madison County Redux:

Best Poster Ever?...Yup
I did however get a chance to check out Madison County, the 2011 throwback film from talented director Eric England. You can read the review here. As you can tell from the review, I didn't think the film itself was anything special, but did think England did a great job considering the budget, shooting schedule and his relative inexperience. Mr. England was kind enough to comment on the review (much love for reading) and asked me to take a second look. Because I'm nothing if not a spineless sycophant man of the people, I obliged.

On second viewing my feelings didn't change too much. The third act is extremely entertaining. The first two acts try extremely hard, but there is just something that misses. I will say that I enjoyed the judicial use of Black Oak Arkansas songs - and a couple deep cuts as well, they're not just trotting out "Jim Dandy" here. Don't take my word for it though. I'm but one dude who uses this blog to amuse himself probably more than he should. Take a trip to Madison County yourself, just don't stop at the diner when you get there. It's currently streaming on Netflix and let me know what you think.

Chilling Visions : 5 Senses of Fear:

Chiller TV, who have managed to carve a cool little niche for themselves with some cool rebroadcasts and even cooler original programming, is set to unleash it's first anthology film project. Pairing 6 up and coming directors with one of the 5 senses, Chiller throws their hat into the anthology ring.

Yellowbrickroad's Jesse Holland and Andy Mitton tackle "Hearing". Miko Hughes (Gage fucking Creed!) will take on "Sight." Nick Everhart gets "Smell". The wonderfully talented Zombie Girl herself, My Sucky Teen Romance's Emily Hagins will work with "Touch"...and our good friend Mr. Madison County himself, Eric England (I sense a theme...) will give us all a "Taste."

Chilling Visons will premiere May 31st at 9pm here on the East Coast, if you are in other time zones there may be some rudimentary math involved. Hit the guide button on your remote and wait until Chiller scrolls by, write down the number so you remember what channel it is. That will save you some time later on. Time saving tips here at the DW, who would have thought?

Roadside Trailer:

Starring Ace Marrero and Katie Stegeman, Roadside tells the story of "Dan Summers and his pregnant wife, Mindy, fight for their lives when they are held hostage in their car by an unseen gunman on the side of a desolate mountain road." Sounds pretty damn cool...and it seems it was directed by one Eric England, well, will you take a look at that...

That's right, it's Eric England night on "Odds & Ends." Hell, if they can do it on American Idol, I can do it here. Pretty sure this premiered yesterday at CineMayhem, which makes me kind of wish I had gotten this whole deal together and posted earlier, but alas I am no Marty McFly so I have to work with what I've got. Since I'm here in NY and not there at the festival, for all I know they could have bumped it for a showing of The Princess Diaries 2, but since the festival is run by the Horror Chick herself Heather Wixson (follow her on twitter @thehorrorchick) the odds are that didn't happen.

Past CineMayhem I'm not sure what's going on with the film, hopefully we can get an update from the man himself...
